Ready for Thanksgiving?

"Note to housewives: your turkey-baking troubles will be over and the bird you serve for dinner this Thanksgiving will be tender, juicy and flavorsome if you follow the method used by the expert cooks at the Bureau of Economics, U.S. Department of Agriculture. Continual testing and experimenting with various recipes has taught Uncle Sam's cooks that many a prize bird has become a 'ham' when improperly prepared.  The turkeys on the table will go into the ovens at regular intervals, and be tasted and judged by a group of experts who are determining which diet and feeding program will produce the best flavored meat.“      USDA, 1937

Looks just like the scene in your kitchen, right? I know this is how we always get ready here at the farm.  And you can only imagine the Pie baking!

Wishing you the best and happiest Thanksgiving!  From the Dog and Me.

  1. Jan, tomorrow's pie baking day here. We're also making a carrot cake with cream cheese icing. And we'll pre-cook the mashed 'taters and sweet one too! All with the hope that Thursday isn't spent in the kitchen, just with our family.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving,

  2. That sounds like such a good idea, Diane. We are only two, with family widely scattered, so we'll do a Turkey breast in the smoker. I'm going to try and make pie tomorrow - pray for me. I'm a good baker, but have never conquered pastry, and I'm determined to learn how to make pie crust this year.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving with your family.

  3. Thank you Jan for the Christmas ornaments I won in the giveaway, they are just so wonderful, vintage and unique. I have a picture of one on my blog. thanks, Nancy
